This Way on Bay’s, Alexandra Nyman, recently directed a short film entitled, “Emilia”. Nyman has lived in Tompkinsville for the past five months and creating films with her boyfriend, and native Staten Islander, Sebastian Barbera. The duo have created numerous films on the Island, including music videos with Staten Island’s own Pros and iCons, the winners of the z100 Hometown Heroes contest.
The film is three minutes long and was entered into the My Rode Reel competition. The Rode Reel competition is the larges online film competition in the world, with entries from Europe, Africa, South America, North America, and Asia. There are four ways to win the competition: having the best Behind the Scenes video, being a Young Filmmaker, having the Best Overall Film, or winning the People’s Choice Award by having a strong social media presence.

“Emilia” is currently in the running for the People’s Choice Award and is ranked 8th out of 1,191 entries from around the globe. The film stars Bethlehem, PA natives Alessandra DeMartino, best known for her appearances on the 00 Remake Girls channel she started with her sisters, Niki and Gabi DeMartino, and Blaise Delfino, an independent musical artist who just released his EP Commencement, which is available for a free download on iTunes.
“Emilia” is about a couple who breaks up after an argument goes too far. Liam, Emilia’s boyfriend, goes searching for Emilia after she has been missing for twenty four hours after their split. He traces his steps back to were she was last spotted and begins to piece together the puzzle of where she has vanished to. The film ends in suspense as the viewer has to decide for themselves if Liam succeeded in saving Emilia or not.
