Let’s face it, these Islanders have a fierce sense of style. We have spent the past few days looking into politicians, actors, singers, socialites, and TV Personalities alike to compile this list so that you can take a look into their fashion sense. In no particular order, let us begin.
1) Bobby Flay
Bobby Flay may be one of the most successful chefs of the modern day. His most successful restaurant, Bobby’s Burger Palace, is in 18 locations across the US. Bobby’s style centers around his piercing blue eyes. He is always seen in various hews of blue or purple. He also favors wearing either solid shirts with no collar, or checkered or stripped button down shirts with either a vest or a suit jacket. His style is very classic and reflects his all American attitude.
2) Pete Davidson
This Staten Island native is currently on every Saturday Night as a comedian on SNL. His style can be described as preppy. Davidson likes to have fun with his simple wardrobe. On SNL he is often shown in solid button down shirts and simple graphic tee shirts. Everyone can take a page from Davidson’s book – sometimes less is more.
3) Sheena Colette
This Gossip Girl actress is graduate of St. Joseph by the Sea. Since her schooling days, Colette has branched out from acting into modeling for famous photographers such as Philip Lorca DiCorcia. Her style is very girly and preppy and is filled with designers such as Dolce and Gabbana and Coco Chanel.
4) Keith Richards and Patti Hansen
Patti Hansen was born in Tottenville, Staten Island and in the 80s she and her husband Keith Richards purchased a water front property in her hometown. Richards is known for his rocker, rebellious style that either breaks the rules or falls right on trend. His wife has a classy boho style, and was a fashion icon in the 1970s as she modeled for major design houses such as Calvin Klein and the makeup brand Revlon.
5) Michael Sorrentino
Born and raised on Staten Island, from 2009-2012 Michael went under a new name of Mike “The Situation” as his stint on MTV’s The Jersey Shore. Mike has calmed down since his days on the shore and is currently working as an underwear/ fitness model. He has even settled down and is currently engaged to longtime girlfriend, Lauren Pesce. The Situation’s style can be described as a combination of street wear and casual attire. He is often seen without a shirt, flaunting his “situation”. When he does wear a shirt, he typically dawns graphic tee shirts and the occasional button down.
6) Christina Aguilera
Let’s face it, Aguilera really shouldn’t be on this list since she barely lived on the Island… but I’m going to put her on here anyway because she is fabulous! Born on Staten Island, this 90s pop star risen to star dome and is currently a host on The Voice. Aguilera has gone through some crazy fashion phases, from her sweet Mickey Mouse club days to her more raunchy days with her album “Stripped”, she has always been a fashion icon. Nowadays, Christina wears glamorous, old Hollywood looks and vintage 1950s esk dresses. This Mother of two has definitely toned down her once overly sexualized fashion choices and has become an icon that everyone woman could learn a thing or two from.
7) Yunjin Kim
This actress was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to Staten Island, NY when she was ten years old. Her big break came when she starred on the hit television show, Lost. Yunjin currently stars on ABC’s Mistresses. Her style is simple, she likes to dress is delicate colors within the pastel family, but when she walks out onto the red carpet, Yunjin goes for bold colors and lovely gowns.
8) Ingrid Michaelson
The definition of an indie pop singer, Michaelson graduated from the Staten Island Technical High School. Ingrid’s big break came when she performed in Stapleton, she still gives back to this day with local performances on the Island. Michaelson’s style mixes different patterns, and she loves mixing vintage pieces with modern ones for a unique look. Michaelson has also been spotted in a number of crop tops. her style can best be described as hipster.
9) Drita D’avanzo
Wife of Lee D’Avanzo, the infamous leader of a Bonanno and Colombo crime family farm team. Her claim to fame was the reality TV show, Mob Wives. Drita has a gaudy style in which she loves to mix animal prints, various furs, and colors such as cobalt blue, red, and black. Some may say that her style is that of a modern day, 1930s mod wife, but you can be the judge of that.
10) Brian Quinn
Star of truTV’s Impractical Jokers, not many people would label this Staten Island native as a fashionista, but in his own sense, Brian certainly is. He knows who he is and what he looks good in – which is mostly t-shirts and a hoodie or a blue button down shirt for special occasions.

I am a 24 year old fashion blogger from the Poconos who has finally made the move to the big city… sort of. Living on the Forgotten Borough has its perks though, there are some great local fashion spots, and a budding fashion community right here in our backyard. And a quick hop on the ferry brings us all of the inspiration we need. If you have a fashion tip or a lead on a fashion event, send me an e-mail at Alexandra.M.Nyman@gmail.com.
