When founding members Terry Marks, Marilyn Kiss, Linda Rossi, and myself, Elaine Mendez, of Labyrinth Arts Collective first came together, we considered an experimental endeavor : to create interest in the Arts District of Staten Island by seeking mutual collaboration with groups within the tri-state area all year long.
Last Saturday’s Meet and Greet Event at Edgewater Hall on Bay Street brought together representatives from local arts groups as well as Brooklyn Waterfront Artists, Danisarte Theatre Group of Manhattan, the Hudson County Artist Council, as well as personal links to groups in the Pocono and Philadelphia areas and Upstate New York. Local businessman and the owner of Edgewater Hall, Ettore Mazzei, generously donated use of his catering hall for this fantastic event! Wonderfully decorated in the spirit of the Chinese New Year, Edgewater Hall was the perfect meeting ground for this brand new group.
This event sparked a networking opportunity for those in attendance and guest speaker, Monica Valenzuela of Staten Island Arts gave her full support of any group exhibition proposal submitted by Labyrinth Arts Collective in the near future to be shown in the Culture Lounge.
Surveys were also handed out and then collected at the end of the event in order for the founders to get a better perspective of attendees and their opinions. The success of the event was marked by the interest of those in attendance who offered their support and expressed their interest in being updated periodically as to Labyrinth’s future plans. By the looks of it, Labyrinth Arts Collective, Inc. is here for the long run.
