On Saturday, August 27th from 6:30pm to 9pm, the CANVAS Institute will be hosting the opening exhibition for a series of ten, bold red paintings by artist Vince MacDermot entitled BIG RED NYC.
The son of award-winning ‘HAIR’ composer Galt MacDermot, Vince MacDermot paint vivid and bold painting of urban life and struggle in a city known for plenty of it. The CANVAS show will bring to life two characters from MacDermot’s paintings, the millionaire and the big hair lady.
CANVAS itself is a think tank and artistic space for exhibitions and screenings of all kinds within the community and have partnered in the past with Illuminart, Wagner College, and Occupy the Block.
Music at the event will be provided by CANVAS founder Bobby Digi’s son, DJ H2O, will remix the music of ‘HAIR’ all evening long.
The event is free to the general public and the exhibition will last from August 27th until December 3rd, 2016. CANVAS is located at 150 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY and online at www.canvasinstitute.org
