When deciding to buy a home on Staten Island, there are many factors to take into consideration. Over the last 10 years, the North Shore of Staten Island has seen an almost unprecedented transformation involving growth in several key areas of business and culture that are sure to allure anyone looking to settle down in Staten Island. We spoke to Holly Wiesner Olivieri, to learn a little bit more about why buyers should be excited about Staten Island’s north shore.

Free Access to Manhattan via SI Ferry

While Staten Island itself has a lot to offer, it’s not lost on us that many of our residents commute to the city for work during the day. One of SI’s crown jewels has always been the Staten Island Ferry. With it’s relaxing ride, beautiful view, easy access to Manhattan, and free price of admission; the SI ferry has been a consistent reason for people to move to nearby neighborhoods like St. George, Stapleton, and Port Richmond for generations.

Diverse Food Options

When people think of Staten Island and food they usually think of our various award-winning pizza parlors or abundance of NY delis. But if you are planning to settle down on the North Shore, your options for a delicious meal are actually more diverse than you might have thought. SI is home to a number of family owned eateries serving scrumptious comfort foods, as well as hip gastropubs. Whether it’s authentic Mexican or Italian, delicious German food, savory Sri Lankan, tasty Thai, or mouth-watering BBQ, Staten Island has it all. Not to mention plenty of bars serving a diverse selection of alcohol that is sure to please any palate. Speaking of beer…

Flagship Brewery

Did you know that Staten Island has it’s own brewery? Launched only a few years ago and within walking distance from the SI Ferry, Flagship Brewery does more than just brew homegrown ales. They have an open tasting room where a whole calendar of events take place every week. The unique venue, which is open Thursday through Saturday from 12pm to 12am, and Sunday from 12pm to 8pm, is perfect for a Friday night hangout with friends after a long week. Flagship is quickly setting a precedent for other businesses in the area to embrace the community and expand their own events to an ever-growing population of SI patrons looking for some fun.

Snug Harbor

Snug Harbor is the true definition of a hidden gem on SI’s North Shore. When looking at the North Shore and its wealth of businesses and residential sprawls, it can sometimes be hard to imagine that there are places where you can get away to and relax in the beauty of nature. Not only does Snug Harbor hold many cultural and art events, but Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Gardens are home to beautiful botanical displays including a breathtaking Chinese Scholar Garden. if you are looking for a relaxing afternoon or a weekend day trip, you can’t do much better than Snug Harbor.

Looking for a fun day with the kids? Make sure to check out The Staten Island Children’s Museum located on the grounds. The museum features hands-on educational exhibits, activities, and so much more!

Staten Island Zoo

The North Shore has long been home to the famous Staten Island Zoo. No need to travel to the Bronx or Central Park when you can see exotic animals and wild creatures right in your own backyard. Perfect for families and children, the SI Zoo is located right around both Forest ave and Victory Blvd; great for a day out and then loaded with nearby options to grab a bite to eat after.

In the end, there are many reasons why you should consider Staten Island’s north shore a great place to call home. Featuring a variety of diverse neighborhoods to compliment your lifestyle. These were just five reasons, but Holly looks forward to showcasing more!  Learn a little more about Holly’s company, Holly’s Staten Island Buzz Realty, below:
