Snug Harbor

Most people have heard of the Smithsonian. For those who haven’t The Smithsonian is the world’s largest museum and research complex, consisting of 19 museums and galleries, the National Zoological Park, and nine research facilities.

If you didn’t know that, you probably didn’t know that Staten Island’s Snug Harbor is a proud Smithsonian Affiliate? Here’s a little bit of information about that:

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, located on Staten Island, is one of New York City’s most unexpected and extraordinary destinations. Snug Harbor is set within an 83-acre National Historic Landmark district containing one of the finest collections of Greek Revival buildings in the United States, and internationally influenced gardens, including the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden and Richmond County Savings Foundation Tuscan Garden. Snug Harbor oversees The Newhouse Center for Contemporary Arts, and year-round performing arts, education, and environmental programs. Snug Harbor is a place where history, architecture, the visual and performing arts, and environmental science all come together to provide a rich and powerful learning experience for audiences of every age. Snug Harbor collaborates with the Smithsonian on exhibitions and public programs. [via]
