‘Dock Street’ is a name that’s been synonymous with Staten Island music for decades. For a lot of island residents, it conjures images of that first rock show they attended in high school. These days, Dock Street is giving some talented SI artists their first shot to record their music. Dock Street Records was established to show the world some of the best music that SI has to offer.
On Saturday, October 21st, the ‘Staten Island Jazz Festival 30’ will be taking place at the Universal Temple of the Arts at Snug Harbor.
The music itself is sharp, tinged with electricity, and cold in the best way; as it should be for the themes the band are going for here.
Staten Island has the reputation of being undervalued and underloved. Live on the Scene, hosted by the Richmond Renegade on Saturday, August 19 from 8 PM to 2 AM at Amendment 18 (691 Bay Street, Staten Island, NY 10304), is a music scene event designed to combat this established notion and show some love to the art scene on Staten Island.
But through it all, they’ve only grown into a stronger collective unit. If their latest release (‘Spinnin’ Around’) is any indication, they’re only getting sharper with each passing year.
